COLLISIONS
totally inelastic collisions
totally inelastic collisions
- simplest type of collision
- after collision only velocity remains because it is only one object
- kinetic energy is lost
- explosions are complete reverse
- kinetic energy is lost
- momentum is conserved
- both objects move at different final velocities (do not stick together)
- no deformation of colliding objects and no change of kinetic energy
- pi = pf momentum is conserved
- ei = ef kinetic energy is conserved
- explosions are the reverse of perfectly inelastic collisions in which kinetic energy is gained
- momentum @ the center of mass remains unchanged
